Dr. Pimentel was born in Northern California, but grew up in a small, predominantly military & farming town, Yuma, Arizona. She attended college in Tucson, Arizona as a physiology major at the University of Arizona where she graduated magna cum laude from the Honors College with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences.

She left Arizona for the opportunity to attend medical school at University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine where she knew she could learn and provide care to the patients and families at such a large, tertiary care center as LA County Hospital and work with largely underserved communities. She then went on to the nationally ranked Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) where she completed both her General Pediatrics and Child Neurology residencies. She returned to the USC Keck School of Medicine where she completed her Neurophysiology (combined Epilepsy and Neuromuscular) Fellowship given her passion for both treating and diagnosing epilepsy as well as neuromuscular diseases.

She is now one of only a few pediatric trained neurologists Southern California who is also trained in both General Child Neurology as well as pediatric and adult EEG and NCV/EMG.  During her residencies and fellowship, Dr. Pimentel did research on providing more education and seizure action plans to patients with epilepsy, exploring the limitations to access to care for patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and identifying the factors that underlie immune mediated polyneuropathy.

Dr. Pimentel has a passion not only for working with patients and families to increase education and awareness of various pediatric neurology diagnoses, but she is also dedicated to teaching those in the midst of their medical training as well.

During her training, she earned the CHLA Roberta G. Williams Teaching award twice in 2016, the CHLA Fellow of the Year teaching award in 2017, and the Outstanding Neurology Clerkship Teaching Award from USC in 2019.   In her spare time, Dr. Pimentel enjoys painting, cooking, baking, and spending time with her fiance and 2 puppies. She is excited to continue to put down roots in California, and feels privileged to be able to provide care to the families in the Los Angeles area.
