Seizures & Epilepsy
State-Of-The-Art Treatment For Seizures
Patients often ask us about seizures. Seizures or convulsions occur when abnormal signals from the brain change the way the body functions. Seizures vary greatly from person to person. Some patients only have slight shaking of a hand, while others experience violent convulsions that shake their entire body, and they may even lose consciousness.
While shaking of the body is most often associated with seizures, it is possible to have a seizure without shaking, when feeling confusion or fatigue. Some people have symptoms before the seizure. They may see auras or briefly lose touch with their surroundings and stare into space. The person may not remember the episode later. Not all body shaking is caused by seizures, either. There are many medical conditions that can cause tremors of the hands and head.
If you have had a seizure, you should see your doctor and/or schedule an appointment with a Neurologist at West Coast Neurology to rule out serious illness.
